Default is it the carb ??

i have a 1983 ezgo 244 robins, did almost a complete rebuild of the motor and replaced most parts. motor fires up and runs great if you leave it at 1/2 choke. open it up any more and it slowly dies till you re-choke it. so i'm thinking a carb adjustment, but which way??? oh and if a no go would anything else cause this???

Theres only one adjustment on the carb. Its the air/idle screw, the one with the lock nut. Turn it all the way in then back out 1.5 turns and it should be good.

Sounds like it needs a really good carb cleaning.

Heres a diagram of the carb. The areas circled are the jets that you really need to clean well.

Try adjusting the throttle cable. Heres a good post about how to do it. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?p=734480
