Cart won’t stop
1986 TXT today I have a problem my cart does not want to stop. I let off on the go pedal and the cart slows to what seems like first gear and continues to move slowly. If I turn the FnR to the neutral position the cart will stop. In F or R with the key on or off the cart will move. I have the key out and it still moves. Not sure which is worse a cart that won’t move or one that won’t stop. Any suggestions?

It sounds like the throttle device isn't returning all the way to the 'rest' position. I'm not familiar with the throttle type of these old EZGOs, but it should have some sort of wiper arm. I would check it to see if it is going all the way to the 'rest' position when your foot is off the gas. |

Re: Cart won’t stop
Kind of what I thought but that wouldn’t explain power present with the key off.

Re: Cart won’t stop
Yep, it sounds like the key switch may be welded closed. You can check it with an ohmmeter.

Re: Cart won’t stop
The TXT body style was introduced in 1994, so a 1986 EZGO cart would be a Marathon, and it would have a resistor drive unless it has been upgraded to a controller type series drive.
If the solenoid has welded contacts, it will try to run in "1st" gear all the time due to the jumper cable between the solenoid output terminal and the #1 contact on the wiper assembly. |

Re: Cart won’t stop
You are correct did some testing and that was my conclusion. So I ordered a new one and smacked the old with a hammer good to go temporarily.

Re: Cart won’t stop
There are those on this site that know how to read a schematic, there are those that own a golf cart, and there are those that work on them every day. Experience counts when it comes to a golf car.
