Pack reads ~35v but each individual 6@8v
Limped back home, barely. And pack won’t charge.
The charger (DeltaQ) flashes red twice ... usually means pack too low voltage to charge(?) So disconnected and checked each battery and they are all right about 8v each (Napa 8148’s FWIW) The pack seems to read about 35v, but all the wires/connections seem to be tight/ok. (Can’t find my good DVM, so using an old small analog on a 0-50 scale, so resolution not great). I am just touching probes to any +/- terminal on any one battery, but they’re all the same, right?? What am I doing wrong here? BTW ... 2015 TXT ... new batteries mfr 3/20 |

Re: Pack reads ~35v but each individual 6@8v
If all six of the batteries read roughly 8V, than the six connected in series should read roughly 48V, unless they are not all connected in series or the cables or connections have excessive resistance and there are some amps being drawn from the pack.
The TXT-48 controller does draw a few milliamps when in standby (Run/Tow in Run) and the analog meter much only be 20kΩ/V so it might draw a few ma also, but if that is the case, the cables/connections are in horrible condition. Try measuring the pack voltage with the B+ cable disconnected fro the solenoid, or the B- cable disconnected from the controller. Also, an el cheapo DVM from Walmart or NAPA will suffice for checking battery voltages. Need individual battery voltage to 2 decimal places (8.49V) or 1 decimal place for pack voltage (50.9V) -------- BTW: A small 12V charger (<10A) can be used to charge the individual 8V batteries enough for the charger to kick on, you just can't leave it on charge very long. IE: Don't let the on-charge voltage climb higher than 10.8V for an 8V battery. |

Re: Pack reads ~35v but each individual 6@8v
Sounds like a bad connection somewhere. Maybe a cable that is compromised/damaged/corroded or bad connectors. Put your neg. at the beginning of the pack and then touch positive one battery at a time down the line. You should get 8v jump up in voltage for each battery you 'add' to your measurement. Any that don't jump up 8v will tell you that the connection between that bat and the previous one might be bad.

Re: Pack reads ~35v but each individual 6@8v
I've come across a ton where the cables appear brand new and no sign of corrosion/baking/burning at all.
Car should be reading 40.1 (roughly full charge on a 36V car) but reads something weird such as 14 or 26V. Charger comes on, goes to 100% within seconds and goes 'forming stage timeout' error. Multimeter set to continuity (beep) can easily find the bad cable. It's always a bad cable somewhere. Don't let apperance fool you. |
