1987 ezgo 36V, golf cart only has one speed... Top speed.

I have 1987 ezgo 36V, golf cart. When you put it in drive or reverse, you better have your foot jammed on the brake because it only has the top speed. I though the problem was the contact board, so i replaced, the contact wiper and the contact board and I am still having the same problem. However, before you could push the gas down further and the speed would not change. However, now the first contact is sending out what I presume to be full power but if you push your foot down further, it just stops. NO power coming from contactors 2-4 now but again, top speed from one. I am not sure what else to do here.

Sounds like the cables are backwards on the contacts.
