Lifting on a budget
Hey guys been a while,I bought one of the budget lifts from Trademark for my 86 gas Marathon.Pretty impressed with the quality.I'm using the cart on my property, kinda taking corn to the deer feeder loading a little firewood etc...Nothing too challenging. Here's my question:I don't want to spend a lot of money but need to upgrade the tires. What can I mount on the stock 8" wheels that would look good with the lift and perform in the dirt, grass without breaking the bank?

Re: Lifting on a budget
You will need to buy wheel-spacers or offset wheels, any wider tires will rub on the steering-arms and the rear shocks.Offset steel wheels are under $20 each, spacers are a more expensive alternative.Stock tires are 18x8.5-8",most people use a 22x11-8 with a lift. There are cheap knobby-type tires that you can find for $40 and up,and they work good for general-purpose use.Hope this helps.

Re: Lifting on a budget
Its' harder to find them in narrow widths, and they are more unstable.I ran a set of 21x10-8 on my wifes' cart, they were square on the sidewalls, didnt bulge out,but they didn't handle that great either, its much better with the 11" wide tires now.

Got ya,I looked at offset wheels,do I need 3x5 offset? What are the stock wheels? Do you measure from the wheel front where the lug holes are to the rear of the wheel? Obviously that distance needs to be less I would think.

Re: Lifting on a budget
Stock wheels are 7" wide, centered(no offset). They are availiable in 7" wide with 2"/5" or 3"/4"-offset.I prefer the 2"/5" personally.Yes you measure from the center-plate to the bead of the rim,not the outer-lip,that will give you an extra 1/4"-3/8".Hope this helps.

Re: Lifting on a budget
Just an FYI, if You're using 8" rims with 22's, make SURE they are a minimum of 4-ply sidewalls. Most "Bargain" tires are 2-ply, and the sidewall flex You'll get with a small rim and that size tire is quite unsettling and can border on dangerous at higher speeds. Personally, if I were trying to save money and was buying new steel rims anyhow, I'd look towards 10" instead of 8, similar pricing for both tires and the rims themselves, but a LOT more stable

Re: Lifting on a budget
I just came back from recycling, where I found a set of 12" 4 on 4 tractor wheels and their 23x9.50-12 turf tires. Schwing!
