Here's a surefire way to get it done. Requires a cutoff wheel and a chisel. First, make your drum look like this with cutoff wheel. Second, make a slice on opposite sides along red line with cutoff wheel, use chisel to split the halves. I have had to do this several times, worked without causing (further) damage to axle.

Edit just for your information, no puller was going to pull this off and make it useable. Even though I "saved" the axle, it had to be replaced. The splines had rusted to the hub.

That's basically what I suggested. Without going intondetail. It's what I would do.

Is there supposed to be grease or anything on the hubs? Since mine come off is there anything that I should be doing to avoid this problem down the road?

Anti-seize would be a good choice.

I have a friend that was a deisel machanic in a gold mine. He said the conditions underground were terrible for seizing bolts. He said that they would put never-seize on them and six months later the bolt would be seized. His recommendation was silicone. He said it worked much better. Sounds strange, but this guy was the best machanic I've ever known.

ok i'm a dip sh*t
roady's idea first ...
tried to put wheel back on ... it would not fit
kept tiring and it would not go all the way on
rotated it left and right , all the holes lined up
took tire off and check for some kind of blockage ....
yep you guessed it ... was trying to put it on with the valve stem inside

ok got tire on and put lug nuts 1/2 on , took it for a ride
got back and tried a puller
nothing

got out my cut off wheels and cut the sucker up
got to the spline area and grooved it and knocked it off with cold chisel
pulled axle and bearings looked good
put it back together with new hub and all new brake springs, pads , and pins
took it for a test ride .... passenger side lock up and skidded ... no brakes on drivers side

back at shop
i take it apart ...no brake pad movement ...
sat there and just stared at it
then i reinstalled the brake cable ....
finally it is good to go

thanks to all for the help !!!

Sometimes it's hard to remember that the Prime Directive was to drain the swamp when you're *** deep in 'gators.
