Bandit motor - burning smell
Rode slowly with my wife and baby and when we stopped 15 minutes later I smelled a burning smell.
Cart still runs ok but I smelled around the motor and that's definitely what was burning. Most of the time we were in flatter ground except for going up a hill before stopping. Wondering if this motor is going to hold up? Will call plumquick and see what they say but when I got it they called it a tin can or thin can and said it couldn't take the heat as much as the original. |

Re: Bandit motor - burning smell
Doesn't sound good. When you smell it it's pretty **** hot. It's not going to last that way.

Re: Bandit motor - burning smell
If they said it's a thin can, it's a GE motor. The AMDs are much thicker and have larger brushes inside. Is your cart lifted with a larger controller?

Yes lifted, 23" tires, 500a controller. The original motor I could not get off but was told it was thicker than the one I purchased.

Re: Bandit motor - burning smell
I would consider D&D for an upgraded motor. If you tell them your setup and usage, they can recommend the proper motor. I cooked my stock Hitachi motor in my Yamaha cart and the D&D I replaced it with doesn't get anywhere near as hot under the same running conditions.

Re: Bandit motor - burning smell
I melted the S1 stud of my stock GE motor with my 700 amp controller . Replaced with a custom build Plum Quick and have no problems .

Some guys here will swear by D&D, and others by Plum Quick.
Frankly you can't go wrong with either IMO. I've had a great experience dealing with Plum Quick. |

Re: Bandit motor - burning smell
Unfortunately it's out of warranty (if it was covered). Took me a year to get cart completed and by the time I did it was too late.
I liked the bandit ok just concerned that it won't hold up. Does it hurt them to lug around slowly? That's what was going on just before the burning smell. |

Re: Bandit motor - burning smell
As for going slowly, it shouldn't effect it too much. Though it depends on the set up you're running. My guess is you have some form of resistance within the motor or within the flow of electricity to and from the motor. Check your terminals on the motor and make sure you haven't broken one loose. Disconnect and feel each terminal, post for any type of play. If they move at all, you've got a problem.
