Common for the RXV or golf carts in general would you say?

From what I experienced so far in 5 years most carts I see that have problems are due to batteries/components going bad. I have maybe only seen a few carts where I had to hunt through the wire harness with schematic and meter because the cart would not function. Maybe that will change the longer I do this but so far it’s not often for me

I agree... There have been a lot of harness corrosion issues with the earlier RXVs. Improvements were made which reduced issues in later years. Battery voltage issues affecting the controller, and motor brake issues are fairly common as well. As for the handsets, there are 2 different ones, one for the Danaher controller only, and the Curtis one for RXVs built after Febuary 23rd of 2012. Crud in the pedal assemblies can prevent pedals from returning all the way up, causing HPD (High Pedal Disable) errors. Sometimes a Motor Speed Encoder failure will put an RXV in crawl home mode. The early models had the encoder in the front motor bearing, later they moved them to be externally removable for easier replacement. Guys like cgtech have years of experience with the common and not so common RXV failure modes. They are a whole new breed of cart with a whole new list of peculiarities, as well as some of the common mechanical issues that other carts suffer from. You might as well get used to them, because RXV ownership is on the rise as they are retiring from colf course service in larger numbers.

I say when they “retire” from the golf course they scrap them!! one of the first things I was told about the rxv almost 5 years ago is they are touchy and temperamental carts. And the more I see them I’m agreeing more and more lol

I would rather work on a rusted out DS five times over than an RXV lol

Poking around the harness with a meter can be dangerous with the RXV. There are harness connectors (like at the SOC meter) where 48V and 5V pins are right next to each other and there is nothing to prevent a meter probe from contacting both pins at the same time and blowing the controller and all of the 5V powered encoders on the 5 volt bus.

Yeah that would be a big problem but thanks for warning me. I don’t intend to prove the harness wires however lol I guess the trick is to not let the probe slip!

You would probably have to use those tiny needle probes designed to test pins out in a plug

A handheld programmer would really help you out. But like a lot of other shops there just not in the budget.

I think the more you work on these carts the more comfortable you'll be. These RXV are very popular where I'm at and like what Bob said more and more are coming off lease.

At the higher end golf courses and retirement communities you'll see a lot of RXV's. The newer Elite RXV's can be ordered with lithium batteries.
These carts are E-Z-GO's top of the line.
