G29 starter belt - any reason not to use a standard v-belt?
So, I started looking for a starter belt because my newly purchased used cart (2009 Yamaha) has one that is stretched out. After some googling I see the belt is either 1/2 x 35.5 or 1/2 x 36 depending on which website you believe. I want to pick one up today for the weekend and am wondering if there is any reason not to just go to tractor supply and buy a standard (or even kevlar) vbelt to replace it with.
Has anyone had any issues not using the oem belt? Any reason not to use kevlar? Am I overthinking this? Thanks in advance. |

Didn't know the trick when I had the stock engine but with the VC 460 swap I changed to a cogged version of the v belt on my G14. Also changed the club cars I help maintain likewise.

I usually use OEM but have used 35 x 1/2 on my ezgo with no issues.
