G9 Hard to start when this cold

We have been in a deep freeze as the rest of you guys probably are too. I just can't get my cart to start. I have tried choking it, and everything. It just cranks and you can hear the compression but it just isn't completely running. Would ether help? What other suggestions, place heat by the engine? I want to play in the snow!

I would start by checking for spark at the plug(with a sparkplug tester) and is the gas in it fresh?

Yes Mike, the gas is about 3 weeks old. Now I hope that the frigid temps. didn't separate the water from the gas. I will check the spark plug, I cant imagine what happened with the plug, except from the excess cranking. Thoughts?

pull the plug after you try and start it, if its wet then your getting gas and it could be flooded. also check your air filter to make sure its clean. i would definatly check for spark. my g9 has never failed to start even in the dead of winteer. other thing is to check that your choke works!

Check your fuel filter... Mine did the same thing and it was full of crap. I dumped the gas, replaced the filter, and cleaned the carb. Runs good now.

Well I went and changed the plug with another NGK R. I would like to know the proper gap setting for sure. Same results. The engine just turns and turns, compression is puffing out of exhaust, it just seems it is not running enough to completely move out of its tracks. Battery seems to be fine. What else could it be?

Ok, as I just posted I replaced the plug. Based on an older post of G9 not starting. I pulled the plug and grounded it to see I had spark. Note the plug was dry after turning it over. I placed my thumb over the spark plug hole and it blew my thumb out of the hole. Now I started checking fuel flow. I pulled the line off of the carb, while turning it over fuel came out of the line... now it wasn't a heavy or high stream, but nevertheless it was fuel. I drained about 2 gallon of fuel out of tank and checked the fuel for nasty stuff. All of ok, the fuel filter looked pretty new and I blew through it, with no resistance. So now to the air filter area... The filter seemed pretty damp, couldn't tell if it was moisture or fuel. This could be my problem... I am going to try to shoot some ether in the carb tomorrow to check that theory. Any other suggestions???

I've come in late, Hope I remembered what you've posted so far. If plug is dry,but fuel pump is working, I'd remove the carb and clean it, The main jet is in the float bowel and can get clugged. Welding tip cleaners work well or some 18 gauge wire with several strands wound togeather can work also. I will ask, when you push on the accelerator pedal, can you see the carb throttle shaft move? Cant tell you how many times accelerator cable #1 (from pedal to govenor) or cable # 2 ( from govenor to carb) break and the engine cant fire up. Just some ideas's. Good luck.

I rode this machine in some slushy snow on or around Christmas day. I put the cart up in the garage. Now I did notice that the choke cable was kinda froze and I placed just a small amount of heat with a propane heater and it thawed out and worked fine. I see the choke cable moving fine, but I did not check the #1 and #2 cables. I suppose I should see them moving when depressing the pedal.?
