1986 custom marathon
Hello all.. i have read and read a whole lot of information on here but couldn't seem to figure out if it is possible to put a black front cowl from a 88 marathon on my 86 marathon.. i don't mind cutting and prefabbing some things up but didn't want it to be a total disaster.. i have a 2pg motor that i just ordered a rebuild kit for from a site sponsor! and got a new steering wheel and adapter from them also... this is the current project below.. it runs and drives just has 70 psi compression.. but paid 200 bucks for it.. so i didn't think i could pass it up :) any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I don't think there is any way to put a 88 cowl on your type of front end. You would have to find a parts cart that had the type of front clip that you would like and fab it up. Congrats on the new cart and welcome.

I think you could. You should see if you can find you a used one cheap, then compare the two. I think the biggest thing would be cutting it in the correct place and making the brackets to hold it. |

as long as the dash tray unbolts from your nose,I think they are the same. The later marathons have the flat riser piece that the plastic nose bolts to.I think the tray is the same.I could be wrong.I think I have pics somewhere without the nose.

Re: 1986 custom marathon
Just from my experience, the front clip that he wants has a few more "body lines" that meet up with the front plastic nose. The front clip he has is flat on the sloped piece. If he were to put a plastic nose on his clip the body lines wouldn't meet up. I don't see a reason that he couldn't find a front clip he wants and put it on his cart. But fabbing up his clip to a plastic front cowl, I just don't see it. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry. But I had a cart with his front clip and it won't look right with a new plastic front cowl.

I was refering to putting the front cowl off a later marathon on it.Might work.I agree the nose on it now would not look right modded....maybe louvers punched in it would look good?Take a look and see if your tray mounts to your cowl like mine does. There are 2 pics (#4,#5) in my thread of a later marathon without the front cowl.

Bingo!
Yes, he needs to change the front clip to a "newer" style. |
