Re: slow to start
Set the cart up to idle. Lock the brake or otherwise keep it from moving most carts you can start the engine without releasing the park brake. Then set the idle mix to 1.25 turns out, and set the idle speed to make it idle slow. Turn the idle mix out and then in far as you can with it still idling smooth, and wait a minute to make sure it keeps running. Then turn the idle down really slow so its just faster than the starter turns it. Set the idle mix again, then turn the idle mix out about .25 turn more so its a little rich. Make sure (warm engine) it will keep idling without missing turn the idle in a hair if you have to. This way it should start fast unless its cold engine, in the summer mine takes choke in the morning but once its running needs nothing all day. Make sure the airbox is tightly sealed. Make sure you don't have any intake leaks spray with carb cleaner while its idling.

Re: slow to start
Wrench, check battery connections at battery and on starter (both hot and neutral). Then check for bad battery if it still doesn't work. If that doesn't correct it, you may have to change starter brushes. I had to do the latter not long ago.

Re: slow to start
Pedal switch can get dirty and stick, but that is a long time for that. Never had a problem with the relay/solenoid. Brushes could cause a problem like that. I have had the pulley spin until it heated the belt and then turn over because the belt was loose. I think you could test the pedal by turning the key off and stepping on it for 10sec then turn the key on....should start instantly. Before I bought anything I'd check all wiring and grounds in particular, that is a known issue with these carts. If you can't find a wiring issue, try to start it and quick get in there and feel for a warm connection or warm part, because the resistance to the current will cause heat usually.

Re: slow to start
Um, well I did a long time ago, and know a bunch of people with them yet. I once had 60 G1s all to myself except for those pesky golfers riding them around (and I had to maintain them).

I seem to be having the same issue with slow start up, i replaced the drive belt. and it still seems to hesitate when gas pedal is pressed.

Re: slow to start
Tut,
Before you do brushes, make sure you don't have a weak battery.I would have that load tested, There is no sticky on brushes, but not hard to do. Take starter out of the car, pull off the 4 rubber covers. You may be able to change them from there, I'm not sure, I took mine all apart, blew it out with air, cleaned and oiled the bearings, then put new brushes in and reassembled. The thing you have to check on this is, you have to make sure that the new brushes travel in their tracks unobstructed by the wires that are attached to them. Meaning, the wires have a tendency to hang up on the tracks and not allow the springs, to force the brushes to contact the armature, with enough pressure. Hope this makes since MIke |
