Tire advice for EZ Go 6 inch lift.
I am about to purchase a 6 inch Jakes lift for a 2001.5 EZ Go electric cart. I've decided to go with a 12 inch wheel package but I'm a little indecisive on tire choice. First, should I stick with a 23 inch tire? Or, will 25's fit? The cart is stock and I'm worried if a 25 inch tire will hurt my performance (if they will even fit). The cart cart will not be used on pavement at all. It will mainly be used in the yard and riding around working on our backyard motocross track (which is why the extra ground clearance of a 25 inch tire would be welcomed). I'm also wondering if one of the all terrian tires like the ITP/Carlisle All Trails would be a good choice or should I go with something more aggressive?
Sorry for all the questions, but this is our first cart. I've lifted several trucks, but this is new to me. |

25's will fit but you will not have any room for your suspension to work without tires rubbing most of the time off road, I would not go over 23's on a 6" lift.

Re: Tire advice for EZ Go 6 inch lift.
Hi Wandell and welcome to BGW. First, if your cart is 01 or newer then you can fit 25” tires with the Jakes 6” spindle lift without them scrubbing. Several guys at my hunting camp do this without problems. The problem you will run into is…… the larger the tire, the more torque you will lose. If you are just lifting your cart and not upgrading other components, I would try to stay as small as possible. When I first lift my cart I wanted to see what it would do stock with 25” tires. With the 25” tires it would not climb a 15% incline from a stand still. This is a 36V system, not sure if yours is gas.
As far as tires, it depends on what you are doing with them. I use my cart for strictly hunting and off road use. I have super aggressive tires that grab the ground well, but ride fairly rough at low speeds. You can find a in-between tire that rides better, but may not give the better traction. Also, the super aggressive tires tend to tear up grass. |

Re: Tire advice for EZ Go 6 inch lift.
Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, the cart is electric and completely stock. I'm looking at the Jakes drop axle lift. Since the cart will be used off road, I want to be able to articulate the suspension fully without the tires rubbing severely. I also don't want to kill the performance of the electric motor by going too large with the tire size. It sounds like 23's will be my best choice. Since my son likes to wheel around the yard in it, I'm concerned about the tires tearing up my lawn. I don't want to go too aggressive (like an ITP Mud Lite) but I wouldn't mind something more aggressive than the common ITP and Carlisle All Trails. Any suggestions of something in between the two? Are the ITP 489's a good tire? |

I just added a Dunlop kt869 and have no yard damage and still seem aggressive

I consider an aggressive tire one that has deep spaced lugs with a paddle wheel design. I have the Ancla tires on my cart and the mud lite on my quad and all terrains on my brothers quad. His are fine in the yard but my quad’s tires and cart’s tires tear up the grass.

I just went from 23" to 25" and definitely noticed a loss in low-end torque. For your needs I'd stick to 23's.

Definitely a no on the 25's if you do not at least upgrade the controller, you will kill the performance not to mention the battery run time. I am not sure how much difference there would be in any of the aggresive tires since you would have the get them spinning in order for the self cleaning function to actually work. I use mine exclusively off road for hunting and run the 22" Duro Dessert tires with no problem

Ok, I'm gonna go with 23's. Just need to decide on tires. Anyone have any input on the ITP 489 tires? They are not overly aggressive, but are more aggressive than the All Trails. Remember, the cart will not be used on pavement at all.

Looks like a great tire, that is the one I am going to switch to.
