Dive Clutch and Driven Clutch. Is this right??
I need to find out something that is puzzling me?
Is it correct that the centrifugal force of the drive clutch as the engine increases in rpm and closes, is what makes the driven clutch open up?? The cart rode just fine and then all of a sudden the next time it was driven, it would only go in low gear. Put it in Neutral, started it up and the drive clutch closed in on the belt, but that was it. It wouldn't raise up on the drive clutch and it would not pull the belt down in the driven clutch. I took the belt off and grabbed the driven clutch on both sides and moved them opposite and it opened up a little and sprung back to the original position. So after all that, do you guys pretty much think it's the drive clutch, thats the problem?? |

Thats the general idea, there are many factors. Lack of power, rpm etc can cause issues. Worn belts. Belt length...just any number of things. If its riding up on the driven and not riding all the way up on the drive then you might have rpm issues, governor, sticky ramps.

Yeah what roady said. The drive clutches are nearly bomb proof I have seen them all weathered and grooved and still working well but the drive clutches have aluminum ramps and plastic wear buttons. The buttons wear to nothing and the ramps are on their own metal to metal after that.....

Theres really no "easy" way to explain it. This manual might help you decide whats wrong for sure. Clutch Tuning Handbook
