noise from rear end

well after going thru alittle mud i noticed that i had alittle noise coming from rear end. i assumed that it was the drum brakes. so today i removed the rear tires and drums. i turned the axel by hand and can still hear the noise. i put my hand on the motor to "feel the noise" it sounds as though it coming from it.

If the brushes get worn will they make a weird noise? the best way to describe it kinda of mild roaring noise. i checked the diff fluid and all looks ok in in it.

when brushes go out what are the normal symptoms?

could it be a bearing in the motor?

the mud and water was not that deep and pretty sure the motor was not under water.

96 series clubcar ds

some years had a noise from motor that they resolved by coming up with a motor centering kit that took care of the problem but i don,t think 96 was one of the years..........i,m not sure if brushes would cause it but who knows ...............you can pull the motor and look at the brushes and really clean the motor to see if it helps.................................

So what does it sound like when brushes go out? When the cart is cold it kinda surges and runs slow then after it warms up after say 4-5 min it runs fine. But noise is still there any way you look at it.

Also if I decide to take motor off my self is there any thing I need to know, such as springs flying out or magnets coming lose.

And I'm sorry shadow man, the cart is a 2001

just be careful with your cables, hold the inner nut while breaking the outer one loose......theres a nut on both sides of cable.............than a bracket on the rear side and 3 bolts on front holding motor on......its a heavy bugger...........................

No, parts anr not going to go flying out. Just do as shadowman said on using the 2 wrenches. If you spin a motor stud then your in real trouble. Also, lable each cable before you remove them.
