voltage regulator?????
I think I know the answer to this one. I was just given a 98 ezgo txt. Short story: battery went flat while fixing bad gas issue and it had very little water in it. Old battery but apparently boiled out. Replaced battery and checked charged rate with volt meter. 17 + volts. Bad right? Voltage regulator??

Re: voltage regulator?????
Maybe not, a really bad battery will trigger the VR to go full output from the gen. Remove the green wire from the "DF" post on the gen and see if it stops output to battery.
Might be a short to ground in that green wire somewhere from DF post to regulator. Very rare to have regulator fail and go in that direction, usually drops to no charge at all. |

Re: voltage regulator????? TAKE 2
THanks fr the help. OK got home took green wire loose and you were right it stopped charging. So, I chased down the green wire and replaced it from the starter gen to the voltage regulator started it and its still over charging at more than 17 volts. What do you think? What should I do next?

Re: voltage regulator?????
It must be shorted to ground internally, Replace the Voltage regulator and you should be good to go!

Re: voltage regulator?????
I took the new green wire and checked it with a ohm meter, Is It normal to get a ground on the that df post on the star/ gen??

Re: voltage regulator?????
Don't know, never had the need to check it that way, I'm sure it would to complete a charging/regulating circuit somewhere.
