20 MPH out of a rebuilt KF82 possible?
Hi I have an 89 club car I am fixing up. I have installed an All Sports 6" spindle lift and 22" tires on it so far. The engine is a tired KF82 that has a slight knock to it but still runs and drives. I am on the fence right now which is the better idea, rebuild the KF82 or go with a clone? I know it is going to cost around $500 for a rebuild kit and more for machining head and bore cyl. I belive around 20 mph is fine as my kids sometimes drive it. Is a rebuild with the 50 mm piston, shaved head and a few minor adjustments with the 22" tires possible to get around 20mph and still be reliable? Thanks Jason

If it were me I'd just drop in a clone and sell the KF82 to a purist. You can get a 16hp electric start for about $300 shipped. If you are worried about speed for the kids use the govenor and adjust it to where you are comfortable.

Re: 20 MPH out of a rebuilt KF82 possible?
Thanks for the replies. The clone seems to be the cheaper route I may take. I just like the idea of the stock set up because it has worked for so many years. Is their any value to the old engines if they still run? Thanks again Jason

Yes Jason. The KF series is an old warhorse and still revered among those in the know.

Re: 20 MPH out of a rebuilt KF82 possible?
Look on ebay. I sold my a customers FE350 for enough to completely pay for his CPP BB kit. Not saying you'll get that much but probably enough to almost if not completely pay for the new engine and install. I say use your stock clutch and starter/gen. I used the stock start/gen to start the engine and just wired the ignition into the stock peddle wiring so it operates exactly the same.

$289.99 free shipping. On here Ron's been running one in his Geep1 project for well over a year now and he says problem free. |
