Default Batteries

O K I picked up my 99 Regen 2 from my grandkids. They said it would not run for very long. When I got it home the bar meter showed full gharge, so I took it around the block. It was weak when I got back the stupid bar meter still showed full charge. I checked the voltage and it was only 48.6, I think they had not been charging the batteries good. I put it on charge yesterday about 11.00 am, it is 6:00 pm that's 31 hours on charge. The charger is still on at about 5 amps. The batteries are not hot. Just normal warm for charging batteries. I am planning on leaving it hooked up until tomorrow. The batteries are about 5 1/2 years old. I know it's time to change them. Do you guys think it will hurt the charger to leave it hooked up until tomorrow? BTW the voltage is 57.3 now with charger hooked up. Before I put the charger on they were all 8.1 to 8.3.

Not stupid. They are all just above the plates, at least they were when I put it on charge. Maybe I should go check them again. What do you think?

Well 57.3V is low. That shouldn't even be enough to make the batteries bubble but check and see if they all are. If you don't want to spring for a set of batteries. I would put the rear end on jackstands and compare the run voltages on each battery. The battery that drops the most gets replaced first. Usually precaution about not doing this for an extended time.

Update, I just got back from my shop. The charger was off, the yellow light was on. Unhooked charger, yellow light went off. Turned key on yellow light came on for maybe 5 seconds. Checked voltage as follows, 1,8.52 2,8.52 3,8.58 4,8.48 5,8.47 6,8.47.. Serviced batteries none were low. Number 5 had boiled over just a little, might have been over full.

Plan to re hook charger tomorrow. Hope to make these last until spring.
