Default 91 Club Car Drive Clutch Options

Greetings,

I have a 91 that makes a horrible clicking sound resonating from the drive clutch. I bought a rebuild kit and changed all the "guts". Unfortunately I still have the knock in the clutch. I am assuming the housing is just worn out.

I don't want to buy a new one, too high for that model. Does anybody have any ideas on what I could do? Can I change to a different type or different models drive clutch?

Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Eric

Put a later model drive clutch on it. I put one on my clone motor that was meant for a 2006. Bolted right on but my engine was adjustable side to side and front to back.

SB which direction does your motor spin? His '91 motor spins counterclockwise and after 1996 the stock motors spin clockwise. I can't remember if drive clutches are direction-sensitive.

Thanks for the replies. Any suggestions on which way (what clutch or type) to go with?

The stock clutch for yours will be listed to fit Club Cars from 1988-1996. Your 1991 cart motor spins counter-clockwise, but in 1997 Club Car reversed the rotation of their motors and the newer ones now spin clockwise, that's what's making me not so sure if one of the newer ones will work.

Drive clutches don't care about direction, only driven clutches do. That why a clutch off a 2006 works fine on my '86 DS

I wonder why online sellers typically note Club Car drive clutches for sale from 1988-96; and then from 1997-up? Which coincides exactly with Club Car's changeover from CCW motors to CW motors in 1996-1997 model years.

What would the internal differences be? If any?

I dont know. I do know I'm using a drive clutch for a 2012 club car xrt on my 86 with a clone and it works great. I worked for a Husqvarna dealer at the time. They had utility vehicles which were made for them by Club Car so I was able to order parts for the "Husqvarna's" at cost.. the new drive clutch was only $150 IIRC :) ive got probaly 150-200 miles on it and its silky smooth
