The charger will work and come on, but it has no algorithm or control as that is all through the OBC. But you can use it to temporarily surface charge the batteries until you replace your OBC or buy a smart charger. It will be in manual and you will have to cut it off when it reached 60-63 volts. That is all dependent that the OBC is bad and there is not another gremlin here.... As in my original post about this, it is only for testing and not long term operation... This is the same way most all of us test an OBC and the temporary use we have used until a replacement is procured. |

Re: 2007 club car precedent charging issue
To further explain and help you understand, the OBC (On Board Computer) controls the Powerdrive Charger. It tells it when to come on, how to charge and when to turn off. Without the OBC working properly, the Powerdrive is just a big transformer that will convert 120v AC to 48v DC (at a higher voltage to charge 48v), but there are no stages or controls as the algorithm/brains for various stages of charging (Bulk, Absorption, Finish) are not present.
So when you bypass the OBC, it is only to verify the charger works and/or the OBC is bad (or to remove the OBC). If you use the Powerdrive when the OBC is bypassed, you will only be bulk charging (surface charging) the batteries and never really fully or correctly charging them. That is why my note said you can do it temporarily while bypassed until a replacement OBC or smart charger is procured. If your OBC proves to be bad and that charger is new, I would return it for a refund and then buy a new smart charger and fully bypass the OBC for permanent usage (will require one more step). There are some that prefer OEM configurations and if that is your preference you can get a new OBC here https://www.revolutiongolfcars.com/p...nt-2004-2008-5 |
