2016 RXV - Regen ?
This past summer I purchased a 2016 RXV for use on the local golf course and for tooling around the neighborhood.
I'm still trying to figure out how to use the (regen?) braking on grass slopes around the course. The other day I did a bit of a spin going down a short grass slope that still had the morning dew. Experimenting, if I start down the slope slowly and let completely off the go pedal the brake will engage where the rear wheels will break loose and slide. I have tried a light touch on the go pedal and feather the brake but the same thing will happen. With a gas cart I can start down the short slope, let the cart freewheel and feather the brake to prevent the rear wheels from breaking loose and sliding. I guess a better way to say this...it seems a gas cart is easier to control at slow speeds on down slopes by feathering the brake whereas an electric cart (my RXV) does not seem to have that finer control on down slopes. Maybe this is a characteristic of electric AC carts, or maybe something not quite right with mine. The cart runs extremely well otherwise. Any input would be appreciated. In the manual about the Curtis controller it states that the regen feature has no options for adjustment? |

Re: 2016 RXV - Regen ?
I think this is just how the RXV is. I don't think it's an electric versus gas or even AC versus gas, it's that the RXV has no traditional brakes, it's all electronically controlled, brake-by-wire motor braking. There's no friction brake discs/drums that allow for very precise braking inputs, instead it's a digital system.
Brake refinement is definitely a weak spot of the RXV, but you get used to it over time. There are a few brave people that have done front disc brake additions. When I first got my Tesla over two years ago, it took getting used to, and I will say over time Tesla has refined their regen braking to master-class, but early on particularly the slow speed stuff was a bit less refined. That said, the RXV is no where near refined in terms of motor braking (in comparison to a Tesla). I have an electric kick scooter, same principle and it also isn't very refined. |

Thanx for responding DB. That makes sense what you said. The cart is very tricky going down grass slopes. Our local course is considering electric carts sometime in the future and I told them about my experience. Maybe the newer carts have a finer touch on the braking.
