G1 Carb Identification
I bought a G1 last year that was advertised as a 1982. The guy I bought it from had put a new carb it. Didn't run worth crap so I replaced the crank seals and now it run pretty well but breaks up when your not accelerating. Seems to run rich as I can smell gas and never have to use the choke to start it. When I checked the serial number I found that this is a 1981, not an '82. Now I'm wondering if the wrong carb is on the cart. How can I tell????

Re: G1 Carb Identification
The exact same thing happened to me. The correct carb is Yamaha #
J10-14100-02. Looking at the carb from the top and rear there is a flat on the right side by the choke that says J10, also the oil feed tube should be on the left front just before the carb boot not the side with the fuel inlet. |

Re: G1 Carb Identification
If it's a true Yamaha carb, it will have a part# j10-for 79 to 81/j17-for 1982 only and j24-for 83 and up. Hope that helped.

Re: G1 Carb Identification
Thanks for the replys. I won't be able to check the numbers for a few days (The cart's at our camper), but my recollection is that the oil feed tube is on the right side, just in front of the fuel line. Sounds like I could have the wrong carb.

Re: G1 Carb Identification
SmallBlock is correct on that and also the opening will be a little smaller on the 82 carb. They tried to make the 82 year of Yammies more conservative or something even the muffler has a extra tube on it. I tried to put a 83 carb on my 82 G1 and it flooded it then tried to put a 82 carb on my 81 G1 not enough gas then.

Re: G1 Carb Identification
OK. Got a chance to look at the carb this weekend. No model numbers that I could find. Just the manufacturer, "Mokini". Googled it and found they are a chinese motor vehicle parts company. Saw somewhere in this forum that they are a piece of crap. I still don't know if I have the right carb.
Thoughts? |

Re: G1 Carb Identification
Go to golf car catalog.com they have the correct carb listed it will be a J10 as I replied earlier to fit 79-81 G1 carts. This will make a huge difference and run like new

Re: G1 Carb Identification
Thanks. I've ordered the carb from the suggested vendor.
Interestingly, I did a web search for the part# and it turned up on a couple of boat part supply places. I guess this carb was also used on a small outboard or jet ski at one time. I thought about ordering from one of them since they were less expensive but was concerned they might not have the correct linkages. |
