Default What causes Yamaha G16s to strip cam gears?

I've got a G16 in the shop that belongs to the local water company, it is used for meter reading. This particular cart has stripped the cam gears three times now. Governor is set at about 14mph and the motor is not excessively reving. First two motors were done by someone else and I just put a rebuild in last month. It came in yesterday with a no start issue and after removing the valve cover I can see the valves are both shut and no moving at all.

Now, I maintain about 30 G16 carts for a local golf course and I've never had a motor issue other than needing a valve adjustment. What is causing this?

Could they have been "aftermarket"? Never had a cam/crank loose there gears, till last week had a G16 style engine (out of a beverage cart) come in with the same problem. How does that happen? BAD LUCK, on the original engine, maybe bad parts on the rebuild?

Bought the Yamahauler that way, but it had had an extremely abusive life in a concrete foundry. Would take an extreme amount of torque to strip those things. I always thought about those guys running it in reverse and then throwing it in forward to try and "wheelie" the cart?
