Unless you are running a lot of acc a standard start battery
will do just fine.

I would recommend a "group 24" (the fisical size) and a 600 or more cold cranking battery. Those engines have 165 to 180 lbs of compression and will hesitate to start if the "cca" rating is to low.

I just go to walmart/autozone and get the cheapest car battery that has the posts in the right spot, they last about 5-6yr in a cart here with 55w lights is all we run. They have more than enough power I can leave the lights on for a while. They last about as long as the warranty on more expensive batteries, and the smaller garden tractor batteries are only $19 but they only last 2 years not really worth messing with and would have to fabricate a mount in there. Those basic car batteries were $35-40 last time I looked at one.

If you run a subwoofer or other big electrical you might want a better battery. Mine is running on a 10v battery right now it barely starts unless I run it every day then its ok. But I might as well wait until next spring to buy one now. Also I leave the battery in it all winter in case I run it, but often don't. My friend gave me this battery 2 or 3 years ago when it almost didn't start his truck on a cold fall morning, I know a cell is out in it.

I can look it up in the manual, but no it takes nothing to turn these over. Just a battery that will start a car will work fine. The standard size seems to fit the cart clamp, but I did put a piece of 2x4 next to mine the edge/bottom of the seat frame was rubbing into the battery case. The larger size for say a half ton truck will fit also. It might say that in the manual, the name of the game at the golf course was reliability so I'm sure that is why it has a car size battery in it to start with.

If you have a Family Farm and Home store near you they have the hold down rods new for like $2.

Some people put larger/better batteries in them so they can jump start cars better, run stereos and lights with the cart off, etc., because they don't charge much the amperage is pretty low.....you have to run them for a while to charge something up and they don't charge much at all under 5 mph.

A 10 volt battery? sho305, why do you think I recommend a 600 cca battery? Because I know that a lower cca battery can have a "hesitation" situation with an engine running 150 to 180 lbs of compression. Why buy a battery that would give you that head ache, when you can just spend a few dollars more and not worry about it. I will also say, if your 12 volt battery drops to 10 volts when trying to start your cart....there will be hesitation. As long as the charging circut is working correctly, members would have a battery that should last for years and years. Maybe 2 (19.00)garden tractor batteries, tied togeater in parrelell and construct a battery box out of chicken wire and acouple of bugee cords.

And when its hesitating, that starter is generating crazy heat!! Shorter starter life, and maybe solenoid too!

I've run cheap car batteries in two of them since '99. I don't know what volts this dead one is, I can tell it has a cell out so I'm sure it drops to 10 or so. It does not hesitate, it hits compression and stops. After a couple tries it gets past and then it turns over without stopping until it runs. Once it has been run that day it starts right up for the next day or two until it sits for a few days. Even cold it starts in a few seconds of turning over, warm it is instant. It just started doing this a few weeks ago and I have not been using it that much. My cart will start on a little jumper pack, but sure it should have plenty of power to work and last the best which any good normal size car battery will provide easily.

Yeah but two of the lawn batteries would be the same price as a car battery and a pain to connect, no point in using them, I was just saying one would run the cart if you had to use one. They will start 20hp lawnmowers, for a while. With a car battery you have no worries for a good long time.
