installing a tach on my g-16 and need a little help.
I just picked up a tach at harbor freight and it says that I hook one of the wires to the negative side of the ignition coil. I have a 1999 g-16 and was wondering where I should hook this wire to.thanks.

Are you sure the tach is for a single cylinder? The ones I saw were for 4 to 8 cyl.

You need to have an inductive pick up on the tach for a plug wire, obviously you do not have a coil on that motor.

All you have on that engine is a pulser coil. Single cylinder not a "normal" coil. What you get was a car or small engine tach. As Flintrock said you need an inductive tach that picks up electrical pulses from the spark plug wire. Most of them have a pickup that wraps around the spark plug wire. Do a search for Tiny Tach. or just go here; http://www.tinytach.com/tinytach/gasoline.php Yamaha also has a model they sell.

Won't work on your cart, that's for a conventional ignition system as found in old cars.

Equus makes two dial face models that are "programmable" for the number of cylinders on the motor and have the inductive pickup.

Is there two? I was on their site and it read like all their tachs will run the inductive pickup? On amazon it was only like $50 for both, the ones at summit/etc are more.

thanks guys I will have to return the one at harbor freight and get one of the equus ones. I looked at the sunpro tach's and although they say that all theirs are inductive pick up I went ahead and downloaded the pdf manual and found out that you would still need to buy a dsi adapter.I am glad I didnt make that mistake. Thanks again.

Last I checked their 8000 series were inductive AND programmable to one, two, four cylinders etc. 8068 and the 10k 8080. The 8080 is cool if you can find at a decent price......
