Re: G1 not running right
So after some time with the cart today I can tell you this...
The engine runs and starts better warm Cold I have to spray starter fluid to get it going then half to full choke as the starter fluid dies off then half choke most of the time It seems to start better in reverse Also as you can see in the pics the valve on the top of the gas tank is MIA Some pics |

Re: G1 not running right
Check the crankshaft oil seals as sho305 suggested. With the engine running, spray carb cleaner or WD40 at the seals. If the engine RPM changes the seals are leaking and should be replaced.

Re: G1 not running right
The muffler you have might have cost more than the cart lol! Yeah that sounds like seals. I dunno, do you have access to a ATV/MC boneyard you could buy a pipe cheap? The pipe helps power in whatever part of the powerband its tuned for. The long pipe they put on there you still have part of tunes it to a lower rpm. The pipe needs to work with the porting they are using. But it still should start and run without the pipe, so I think you have bad seals or something that need fixing first.

Re: G1 not running right
Yeah I am thinking the seals sense its only running with choke. Now I have to decide if I want to spend the time on the engine or just go for a bigblock. Im thinking snowmobile or bike engine?
What are your thoughts on snowmobile engine? how much overheating problems will I have? Any other things I have to worry about with a bigblock swap? |

Re: G1 not running right
The biggest problem with big-blocking a G1 is the fact you will lose reverse. There is no reverse gear in the transmission, the engine must turn backwards to provide this feature. Most engines will not run in both directions. Here is how to big-block a G1 and still have reverse:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/big-b...lockin-g1.html If reverse is not an issue, do a search. Other members have put snowmobile engines in their carts and posted their results. |

Re: G1 not running right
Some people put a yami bravo 250 sled motor in, you can fab the G1 crank trigger to it and still have your reverse. It runs pretty strong especially with the pipe. You can put a twin in but don't think the ignition will work then....as with any 4 stroke. Or you can dig up a used G2 or G9 transmission and then put anything in there.

Re: G1 not running right
The reverse is not a big concern for me, the thing im worried about is the sled engine over heating. A friend of mine has a sled that he might donate for the project but im concerned about it overheating in the summer.

Re: G1 not running right
I don't think overheating will be a big problem. It doesn't get real hot and humid here in New England, as compared to down south. Some creative duct work so the cooling fan can get air from outside the engine compartment, and you should be OK.
