question for someone, does anyone know if there should be a little slop in the drive clutch, im talking about the outside sheave that pulls in. im wondering if i should rebuild my primary or not.

I noticed mine a little wobbly a few weeks ago. I threw 3-4 shots of greese in the zert and it stiffend it back up.

Hi Dj, there is a bushing inside the sliding part that could wear out ,Ive never replaced one but seen them on ebay and such. Becareful of how much grease you put in that fitting you dont want to get any grease on the weights it will sling around and collect on the weights and can cause catastrophic damage to the cover end weight arms,also if the outer seal is bad you can get grease on the belt and thats bad also. Its a good idea to remove the big cover and clean the weights off.Then you can see if the inner seal is leaking or if its been over greased There is a thread on clutch maintenance I read a short time back refering to spraying a synthetic grease(light duty)on the weights and only one to two pumps on the grease fitting that what I did and so far so good... I just rebuilt a G9 clutch, we used a socket to press the bushings out there is one in each side and seal over it. We actually had a good used one with bad sheave, I took the set screws out and moved the weights to the bad clutch, then we pressed the bushings out and pressed them back into the bad one. I thought for sure we could not get them out without trashing them. Put a nick in one bushing it would not fit back together, had to file it a little and it worked like new.

Normally it does have a little play that near goes away with a shot or two of grease. If not it starts to rattle and can vibrate out of balance. You don't need a puller to do all that stuff the inner sheave only stays on the crank, just take the bolt out. Some retardicapped reject put locktight on the bolt on that one, what a pain to get out. I guess they had it rebuilt by some place that went under shortly after. I had to heat it and used four different 1/2"impacts on 130+psi to get it out. A 3/4" impact would not fit in there.

We pulled the seals out with a seal puller, its just a larger size dental-looking hook. You have to heat the locktight on the set screws usually, about the time the washer starts to melt they come right out, with a torch. Propane torch is easiest.

Dj, your deffinetly in the danger zone. Take the cover off and see what is about to explode.

And mine had a small amount of movement even with a new sheave.

Ouch, looks like a weight broke out. I paid $90 on epay for one with holes in the sheaves to fix one this summer. Guy said it was rebuilt not long ago and he was right everything was tight. I had to move all the parts to the other sheave but it worked out great and another old lady has a good running cart again. The dealer said the weights were 30 something each? But this needed a new cover it had holes from battery acid, and I got all the pins/center bushings/washers/extra setscrews and all included. I don't think you can even buy that cover new.

i did find a new cover on buggiesunlimited.com for $40ish. clutch rebuild kit is $123ish plus shipping. hopefully i can find a almost new setup like you did for cheaper, but brand new might be better, who knows!!!
