Re: Questions regarding charger and or battery pack......
Hey, hey, hey. You guys are taking my job.
Well my batteries are def bad. After charger kicked off, I checked immediately and it said 38.6 But when was driving it at WOT it would drop to 30 volts. But I am just going to keep charging them. Over and over an over and over again. Question: Can you over charge batteries? |

Re: Questions regarding charger and or battery pack......
Well I have charged my pack like 3 times today. It has not been driven at all today and is on the charger now. I just went and check voltage one each battery while charger is going. I have 5 Trojan batteries and one superstate battery. Was that way when I got the cart.
The superstart battery is the first in the pack. Where white hooks to positive from charge port. Okay: Battery 1: 6.90v(Super Start) Battery 2: 7.04v(Trojan) Battery 3: 7.04v(Trojan) Battery 4: 7.04v(Trojan) Battery 5: 7.04v(Trojan) Battery 6: 7.04v(Trojan) Battery 6 is where negative from charge port hooks. What are your guys thoughts? |

Re: Questions regarding charger and or battery pack......
Battery 1 is bad, Colt is out of balance.
Kidding aside, I checked out the Super Start website and the only deep cycle batteries I found were "Deep Cycle - Marine" batteries", so this might be a good example of why not to use marine batteries in Golf Carts or why battery types shouldn't be mixed. @ Colton: A few posrs back you asked: " Question: Can you over charge batteries?" Yes, but overcharging flooded lead-acid cells isn't as easy as many people believe. WARNING: Technical Information follows! Since what "Fully Charged" is, isn't well defined, what "Over Charged" isn't either. The term "Fully Charged" is commonly used to describe the Specific Gravity or Terminal Voltage of a battery after it has self discharged for several hours or has been under load for a few minutes, so the Voltage and SG at 100% on a State of Charge chart is slightly less than "Fully Charged". One reason for this is because the relatively small uppermost portion of the discharge curve is non-linear and erratic, therefore unreliable in accurately estimating the chemical energy stored in the battery. This is the same reason the charts only go down to 10% SoC. If "Fully Charged" is define as when the SG stops rising while current is being forced through the cell, then "Over Charging" occurs when current is continued to be forced through the cell after the SG stops rising. There are some variables, but "Over Charging" Golf Cart batteries with an automatic Golf Cart battery charger isn't very likely as long as the batteries are at least in marginal condition or better and the charger is working properly. You can however, over temp the batteries and or expose the plates using an automatic charger, so keep an eye on battery temp (110-120F Max) and electrolyte levels when restarting charger multiple times. |
