G9 engine rebuild, repair, replace...advice needed
my g9 just lost all its power. I'm not an engine guru. it is burning oil but not leaking oil. you can feel a lot of blow out when removing the oil cap. I'm assuming it's a seal or a ring. I know that they sell engine rebuild kits at various web sites. should I be looking to repair this engine or buy an aftermarket replacement. this is definitely not work that I can complete myself. I will have to pay someone to complete the service. what should I be looking to pay to get this cart up and running again. does the configuration of these engines allow them to be rebuilt/repaired while still in the cart or does the engine the completely removed. any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just put 350 dollars of new tires on the cart. I'm hoping the cost of the tires and of the engine work doesn't outweigh the value of the cart

but really they are pretty simple motors, if your going to do it, go ahead and have it bored over, I have NO idea on how much to have it overhauled, as simple as these motors are I would check and see if you have a small engine repair place that would do it, might even ask here for the repair manual and give it to them, that way they have the torque specs. |

Re: G9 engine rebuild, repair, replace...advice needed
You just never know till you pull it apart and insect it. Maybe the oil rings collapsed (common in that engine since its 20 years old) and a hone and new rings would fix it up, you just don't know till you see the bore. Also, you will feel alot of air (and maybe oil) out of the oil filler cap...because of the piston moveing up and down creating crank case pressure. Lack of power could be many things, airbox not sealed correctly, plugged muffler, clutchs not working right, ignition/spark or even fuel problem. Are you able to take a compression test (at wide open throttle)? Good luck on your decission.
