Default A little unclear on this...

I have a Melex model 512 that I have completely stripped and am putting back together with an alltrax axe 500 amp controller and plan on 8 6v batteries. I know I need a heavy duty solenoid, but I am completely lost after reading up on which forward/reverse switch I need to get. I plan to reuse the old pot box so it will be a series cart, but there are so many options out there that my head is now spinning. Can I use one made for an ezgo? A club car? A Yamaha? I would think any of them would work. I just want one thing that will last and not catch on fire. Should i throw out the old pot box and go with more modern components?Any advice?

Oh yeah- the cart is lefties with 22" tires and is also limo style on a stretched frame. I will be running 2ga cables.

Okay, you need to verify what the output is on the existing pot. It may be 5k-0 or 0-5k or 0-1k? I don't know but a simple ohms test will tell and hopefully this pot output is the same as your controller's input, if no, reprogram the AXE to match your pot
Now select a suitable HD 200 amp solenoid and get to work

Thanks Scottyb! But what for the forward/reverse switch do you recommend. I see you have some on your site, but still not certain which to get.

Just did a resistance test on the old pot box. 0 at idle and 5.32k at full speed, so does that mean it is a 0-5k?

Yes, 0-5k.
The Melex guys have been using my Ezgo HD F&Rs without a problem.
