Default Re: epsom salt with battery formulla

What Epsom Salts, EDTA and most of the other battery additives do, is eat away the sulfated surface of the lead and lead dioxide plates, exposing more active material, but thinning and weakening the plates in the process, and creating a conductive sludge that (hopefully) settles to the bottom of the cell.

Some times the conductive sludge shorts out the cell instantly, some times it doesn't happen until the fluid in the cell is agitated violently.
Even if the sludge stays on the bottom and doesn't short out the plates, after being thinned and weakened, the plates won't last very long.

Some people get an improvement (temporary), some people instantly get dead batteries.

I'm glad you were in the former group and sincerely hope your batteries last out the snow season.

When you get your new batteries, be sure to fully charge them prior to first use, then break them in properly for maximum storage capacity and keep them charged as fully as possible or practical for maximum lifespan.

Glad to know I didn't just waist $600 on buying new batteries.

thanks Ytinky. iv been sick with the feaking flu for the last two weeks, so havent even thought about that golf car until the last couple days. i swear that flu is definitely something i never want to experience again! glad to be back in the world of the living..

i know ill be buying new batteries but im wanting to give that epsom salt a try to get just alittle extra run time. my batteries are as old as Ytinky's. money is tight right now so cant just run out and buy new batteries because thats the ideal thing to do..

no, and it never really has.....its snake oil fix.

oh and btw...... Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!
