Rear brake inspection
Got my cart going to some degree. Brakes are almost none existent. Going to check the rear brakes, Got the tires off, how do I remove the round cap or hub or whatever it is? I've looked at videos but none show it.

Re: Rear brake inspection
Thanks but.....already seen it and it doesn't show how to remove the part I'm referring to.
The part I'm talking about actually looks like it goes over the nut with the key through it. With the tire on, it goes through the rim. On all four tires. I see it in the repair manuals, but no idea how it comes off. |

Re: Rear brake inspection
I use a puddy knife, fit the blade into the very narrow groove and then kind of twist it, moving it around the circumference. Then, I use a pair of channel lock pliers to jiggle it the rest of the way off. You can also use a regular knife in the seam, if you are careful. To reinstall it, I just lightly tap it with a hammer, trying not to dent or misshape it.
But, you don't have to remove the dust cover to check the brakes, do you? |

Re: Rear brake inspection
You have to remove the dust cap.
Besides what's mentioned above, a light tapping outward with a rubber mallet on one side may allow a screwdriver to be used to pry it off. You can also try tapping a screwdriver with a mallet. You just have to get it started, then pry it off. Once you get it started, work your way around, as it will bind if you only pry it from one side. Denting is just cosmetic, and won't hurt it, as long as it's still round. |
