Default 2011 Par Car Eagle NEV 12vdc power?

Great forum, very interesting. Do I need a 48vdc-12vdc converter or can I draw off 2 of the 6vdc batteries.I think I read somewhere that you should use a converter or inverter.I would like to add a head unit and need some help. Also a wiring diagram would help.
