Re: Welding cable: Is 2/0 the same as 2 gauge?
Dave - the 2/0 wire will work great - I used it on my cart.

Re: Welding cable: Is 2/0 the same as 2 gauge?
Thanks again for the replies. The smaller welding cable I have is 2 gauge. So thats what I'm going with. Besides connecting all the batteries and the negative and positive to the pack, what other wires should I upgrade?

The cables to the solenoid, motor and controller, if you have an IQ system. Basically all the larger battery type cables on the cart. They are the ones that carry the load. I would check all your other wires in the cart for clean tight connections. One of those mightaswells.

Also I bet you find that the welding cable is a lot easier to form. I have used 4 gauge on some carts that is stiffer than 2 gauge welding cable.

That looks like a lot of cable! I'll have to look at it closer. Maybe can use the 2/0 for some of the long runs back to the motor.

Re: Welding cable: Is 2/0 the same as 2 gauge?
I am not an electrical engineer, or any sort of engineer for that matter, but I wonder if there is such a thing as too much cable. 2/0 looks to be appreciably larger than 2. Won't it take more juice to fill the cable and the current to go through?

Re: Welding cable: Is 2/0 the same as 2 gauge?
You should think of the cable as a road. The speed of the vehicles is the voltage and the number of the vehicles as the current. You can see that on a narrow single lane road you could travel at 100 mph (high voltage) but if you try to run 200 semi trucks down it they will jam it up and slow down (low current). What you need is low voltage but high current. Now think of a 4 lane interstate. You can drive at any speed but in addition you can get many, many more big trucks down it as well. Now if you had a 20 lane interstate this would be too big but it will still allow all the traffic you want. The only disadvantage is the cost of building the road. If you have free cable and you can fit it in there is no disadvantage to you.

Thanks. But now, as pointed out earlier, could use squeeze that 20 lane interstate in place without to many encroachments?
