Any concerns charging in AC Garage?
A recent thread about a CO detector going off during charging got me thinking, and may be a stupid newbie question, but…. Should I have any concerns about storing and charging a cart in an air conditioned garage? Any concern about potential battery gases getting into air supply?
Have a 3rd car garage previous owner air conditioned though the AC unit services that garage section and one small part of the house? Will be where we eventually store a cart. |

Re: Any concerns charging in AC Garage?
When I still had lead acid batteries I could walk into the garage and the air would be really caustic when the charger was in the balance charging phase and the batteries were boiling... I'd have to open the big garage door to help clear it. If it were me, I'd be concerned and would not want those fumes in my house (or for that matter blasting the coil in my air handler).
So you're in a pickle since any day you use the cart you should charge the cart... And it could take hours and hours to charge... |

Thanks, that’s the sort of thing I had not thought about until now. Had been considering lithium anyway and that may sway my decision. It’s a single car extra garage that is AC’d which I put a workbench in for various crafts/projects including for the kids to use.

Came across this article. They also mention theoretical scenario of AC circulating gases to other parts of the house. In my case one of the AC handlers is in that garage space. Back to the drawing board, I guess will still look at lithium carts. |

Re: Any concerns charging in AC Garage?
Hey FlCardio..
You might consider agm sealed maintenance free batteries...they do not give off fumes when charging... I use Crown agms in my cart and have had excellent reliable results, great range with less expense than lithium... Perhaps when lithium battery prices come down and products maturing with improved reliability...then one day perhaps... Best wishes Happy cartin' |
