The red, and blue wires go to the ignition module. That plug looks like it goes to the original. The coil is separate from that.

Pull the exhaust off. Look for a hole in the side of the piston while moving it up, and down. If you can see the hole, it's in backwards.

Looks like the piston is in the correct way. Here are some pictures of full range of movement

Look at the third picture down. That looks like a hole to me.

Yep yep, Sure looks like the ports to me too. Also appears to have a lot of 'scoring' on the piston, I'm surprised the compression is so high... But what's going to happen after turning that piston around the right way? Even more 'scoring'? It'll probably be good enough for a while but I'd think about doing a complete top end at this point, but that's just me

I have a top and bottom end kit on the way. Going to rebuild it and hopefully be done with the motor side of things for awhile

I guess I didn't notice the piston being the wrong way as I was taking pictures at the same time

Ok great, Glad to hear you're going to do a complete top and bottom rebuild.... I recently did a complete rebuild on my 85 2pg due to wore out crank bearings, It was fun I really enjoyed it. Although I had some unusual surprises with mine (happens with everything I do lol) but I was able to work through them, And it's been running great ever since. Here's a thread on mine, Good luck and keep us posted http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-e...e-rebuild.html

What would be the possible reasons of the fuel pump spitting a little gas out of the vent hole and out of the carb vent tube while trying to start it? Tried two different pumps and doing the same thing. What I have done to the cart so far is new carb, top and bottom end rebuild on motor, and new drive clutch.
