Re: Rotation Issue?
Yes, it seems that you may have a 1997+ FE350 that is a clockwise motor, which would be wrong for your 1990 DS...and yes, you should be able to reverse the polarity and run the starter in the opposite direction if you want to see if the motor runs.
You should be able to follow this diagram to swap wires connected to "A1" and "A2" on the diagram. Keep in mind this is a diagram for 1992-up carts, I'm only showing it because I believe that the starter connections are the same. |

Re: Rotation Issue?
fired right up after switching the wires!! and it goes in forward and reverse with the shifter in the correct position! My guess is that the rear must have been swapped out as well. The motor is running in CW rotation and forward is forward and reverse is reverse..

Re: Rotation Issue?
sounds like a powertrain swap to a 97+
just the started was not wired up correctly for this config. Does it hurt the starter to run in either direction or is it built that way, rotation is wire dependent with not adverse affects on it ?? |

Re: Rotation Issue?
That I don't know, judging by the wiring diagram above it does not seem to matter.. I plan on checking part numbers to see if they are the same.. also have to put a neater on it to see if it's charging or not

Re: Rotation Issue?
Pretty sure the FE350D should be a cw rotation, so yes you're spinning it backwards. Most of those starters can be reversed by swapping the A1 & A2 terminals

Re: Rotation Issue?
There are people who drive them that way - reverse becomes forward and vice versa. Changes the gear ratios a bit, but it's drivable.
