Re: 295cc robin oil?
The air cooled engines need good oil for added protection. Since it's only 1.5 qts. I spend the extra $ for synthetic oil. It's worth it in the long run....
I use valvoline Q 10w-30, many others use mobil 1. |

Re: 295cc robin oil?
my two cents is to run straight 30wt in the summer, if your going to run the governor up and/or run at higher rpms on trails etc. the synthetic is the way to go, there all good! i use royal purple only cuz its easyer to get in a straight wt.

Re: 295cc robin oil?
Hello all,
Pizzamaker gives the good answer. In our Honda GX160 bambinikart with max 5600 revs we drove normal car oil, so mineral multigrade. 4 Years, once a year new oil and no problems. In our subaru we take 1.9 liter full synthetic Motul 300V raceoil 5-40, recomended for WM racebikes. By the way; cold weather (freezing) = 5 hot weather = 40 or even 50 So it's also the question where you live and what season. 30 single grade will do good in the summer with max 25 Celsius 10 single grade when its really freezing all day. Multigrade like 5-40 and 20-50 is a all season oil. Synthetic gives better quality at difficult sircumstances like racing and in situations with not enough oil, very hot oil or oil spoiled with gas. In basic engines, like the golfcartengines are, you can take mineral oil. Its a lot cheaper! O, in racecart 250cc engines with 38 HP is only 250 to 350 cc's of synth. oil! They go up to 12000 revs..... Than you need Synthetic.... (Biland, GM, Vampire, Swissauto) For more about oil: www.motul.fr take the english part. Re: 295cc robin oil?
i feel that no air cooled engine with a oil pump! should use anything less than straight 30wt in warm and hot climates..

Re: 295cc robin oil?
Pizzamaker,
I think i know why you think this way! A aircooled engine has bigger tolerances in the engine as a watercooled because of moor expanding for the aircooled. Thinner oil like 10 or 20 wil get out of the engine when it is cold and be to thin when hot....... My sub also looses more oil with the 5-40 as the 15-40 When you live in a region with temps between say 10 and 25 celsius you are right! Sure fore engines like in golfcarts, but also in a aircooled Porsche?..... In the Netherlands with temps from -15 to + 30 celsius a multigrade is the best.(recomended from VW for aircooled beatle and older Skoda's) I sold them in my times on a garage with a big fillingstation.
