Question EZ-GO Controller

I just purchased a new Alltrax DCX400 DCS controller. I was looking at the wiring diagram for the new controller. I am going to install a diode in across the relay coil. My DCS system did not have one. I assumed it was built into the controller. However, my old system has a resistor/diode pack across the power terminals of the relay. The new drawing indicates only a resistor. Should I remove the diode? Can anyone tell me what it is for? I think it is there to supress the voltage to keep arcing to a minimum and to keep from burning the contacts of the relay when the relay is de-energized. That is the only purpose I can think of. I just installed a new White Rogers 586 series relay that will handle the current.

Your original controller and solenoid should have had a diode and a resistor cluster.... Foloow the Alltrax diagram to the letter. Hope this helps

Thanks. It appears I posted in the wrong section. This should have been in the electric section.
