Re: solenoid wisdom?
Ya sorry Dj I was going by memory on the location of the connectors all of the are on the front side of the solenoid the ohm meter should be on the lowest setting ie depending on your meter nothing in the "k or M" range. so if you have it set on 200 that should be good. What your looking for is 0 ohms. If you touch the leads together in any range it should read 0 ohms that is the least resistance. So if you go to your pins(male ends) on the solenoid even if your on 2000k ohms it should read the lowest reistance and you dont want a reading with a k or an M thats thousand or mega that would be considered an open circuit in your case.Thats to much resistance to pull the plunger in to give contact across the two large battery lugs on the solenoid. Thats what you are doing by manually pushing the button on the back of the solenoid when the starter engauges. let me know what you got. Tom

Re: solenoid wisdom?
TJ, thanks so much again for all the help, i learned something also with all this. here is what i found, as i was waiting for a reply i went ahead and pulled off the solenoid and took the cap off it. once i got inside of it, i found a broken/burnt wire on the little red/white wire. so now it is time to find a new solenoid. again, thanks for all the help! you the best!!! :)

Re: solenoid wisdom?
Dj, so make sure you get the correct solenoid for your cart. You probably know this, but it has to be a "continuous duty" golf cart solenoid. An automotive type solenoid will not last.
You guys have a good one! Mike |

Re: solenoid wisdom?
Mike or Tom, i read this at a few different forums, altho- i just called a golfcart repair shop in Boyne city michigan and he told me hat any solenoid works, i wanted to correct him with my discoveries that i have found on this GREAT site but, really didnt want to insult his intellegence on golfcarts, heres a good question tho, suppose to go on a wheeler ride today with other cart owners, we do this every Sunday afternoon along with a bbq. would it damage my cart if for todays ride i do put a regular 12v 4post solenoid from tractor supply on till i can get a actual shipped? Thanks Dj

Re: solenoid wisdom?
I'd say, it would be ok, but I don't know if you'd get and hour or 10 hrs. out of it, before it burned up.

Re: solenoid wisdom?
Good morning Dj,
Congrats on your discovery, I agree with Mike, the solenoid is supposto be continous meaning its holding contact the whole time your foot is on the gas,and automotive solenoids are momentary the windings inside are not built for that and will eventually over heat and leave you on the road some where.Thats not our object here.Unfortunately it being sunday nobody is going to be open.So its going to be a "take your chances" if you must go on your ride I wish you the best of luck but I highly recommend you invest in the correct on. One the sponsors here has one Im sure. This is the best place for knowledge and help. I know "Ive been there done that" and with out this place for reference it would cost more money than time. Have a Great Day Tom |

Re: solenoid wisdom?
hey guys, just little update, got my cart running on a spare solenoid and also a actual golfcart solenoid on the way. as it stands tho, i still feel there is a possible short somewhere in the system. since its been running ive popped 2 30amp fuses on the ground. the problem is tho, ive tracked all the wiring and i can't find anywhere that there is a possible short!! as of tonight, i guess my wife and I will be taking the 4wheelers. once again, thanks for all the help and ive learned more about solenoids and wiring in the past 3days then ive learned all my life. Hats off to you guys! djb
