Possible piston ring replacement in order?
My 98 EZGO has been giving me fits for a while, but I've tried to ignore it. After it would warm up it would hesitate and/or die. As you would let off the go pedal at full throttle it would lose power(spark?) and I would have to let it slow down and pump the go pedal and it would sometimes start back up. Anyway, I did a compression test and came up with a whopping 60 psi in each cylinder. Also, when I pulled the plugs they were coated in oil.(Forgot to mention that when going uphill, which made the engine work, it would smoke like I was fogging for mosquitoes and smelled like burning oil).
So I'm guessing new rings are in order. But I also saw in some posts about maybe checking/replacing valve guides? How does one go about checking and, if bad, how does one replace/fix them? If someone could direct me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks. Picture doesn't do it justice, but the shiny look on the bottom of the plug is oil. |
