Won't start when gas pedal depressed
I have a yamaha golf cart that will do nothing when gas pedal is depressed.
The battery is good, but no click, no start. Daymond1 |

Re: Won't start when gas pedal depressed
You need to also go to the wiring diagram stickies and get a wiring diagram for your cart, then read the "no start" sticky as recommended. This should help familiarize you with your cart. You can then ask good questions and get good answers. This will make the troubleshooting process a lot quicker. Also the year and model number of your cart is pretty much mandatory information for anyone to help you. Hope this helps - RAY

Re: Won't start when gas pedal depressed
Bad connections at battery clamps and cable ends are very common. Check fuses and other wire connections. Note these carts have ground wires, not frame ground like a car. If you ground to frame make sure you ground your frame to the battery.

Re: Won't start when gas pedal depressed
Only time my Yammy wouldn't start was dirt in the switch under the gas peddle.

Re: Won't start when gas pedal depressed
My G9 in the winter time had gotten wet while winter riding and some water had frozen where the cable slides within the cable housing resulting in a break in the cable

Re: Won't start when gas pedal depressed
Try connecting the two large poles/terminals of the solenoid together. If starter generator responds, then it's probably a solenoid problem, either lose wires connected to the solenoid or the solenoid is defective.
If the starter generator does not react after doing the above as suggested, you may have poor cable connections (+ to solenoid and - to A2 of the starter). Bad ignitor (poor ground and/or loose connection), ignition coil (or just the cables/wires) or defective pulsar (or again, loose/disconnected wires). Do these in the sequence presented. Hope this helps. |

Re: Won't start when gas pedal depressed
Or you can test it. Simply put a meter on the solenoid and see if 12v is there when you hit the gas.(test to battery ground) If not is it there in the small wire from the pedal. If not is it coming out of the key to the pedal. Get the wiring diagram its pretty simple, for the most part the battery is cabled to the gen to start. There is a hot wire to the key then the pedal switch then the solenoid and ignition (coil/ignitor). The key then pedal switch light everything up should be able to test that one color wire. If it works then may be bad ground. There are factory fuses you can blow them if you hook lights or something to frame ground. Do not trust any connection I had nice looking clean battery posts and they would not work had to file them down a wire cleaner would not make them work. The VR runs off the small wires on side of gen and battery ignore that for now.
