Default Yamaha golf cart backfired then wont start

anyone know why a Cart would backfire then quit engine turns over but will not start

Yeah, backfired as it ran out of fuel. Spray some carb clean into carb, then crank it up, bet it will start.

worked great thank you.now i have to figure out why i need the choke on to get it to perform normally

Clean carb & check fuel flow through pump. The carb-cleaner just verified you have a lack-of-fuel problem. Probably just a funked up dirty carb.

thanx I did remove carb ,cleaned and ensured all ports were clear.I am wondering if it may be the fuel pump itself ,it does deliver fuel but not sure what the flow rate should be coming from it.I do work on small engines at a go kart track but they are gravity fed..

Pull the fueline off that goes from the fuel pump to the carb. Put the hose in a ziplock bag or watet bottle and press the pedal. Should pump a nice steady flow

pump was pumping but not steady ,more in spurts ...ended up putting my hand over intake side and so far it seems to work.Kart running good now .Thanx all for help and support.
