Disconnect and clean all connections?
I’ve taken on a 1979 36 volt project cart. Not interested in doing any upgrades. Just want to get it running. With the batteries out should I disconnect and clean up all of the wiring? I will be putting in new batteries and connecting cables.
These pictures makes me think I should pull it off and clean it up somehow. |

Take it all apart. Clean it with a wire brush. Replace bad cables and terminations. The batteries are out, why not?

The accelerator pedal doesn’t spring back like it should. Is the spring under the floor the only thing pulling it back?

Previous owner had used cheapie cables on my cart and at one point was dead in the water after seasonal storage, even though individual battery voltages were within tolerance and the cables looked not too bad. Over time, that green copper corrosion can travel under the insulation making the whole system unreliable. New cables will make one less thing to worry about for the next 5 years. |

Re: Disconnect and clean all connections?
Yes I think that is good advice. I cut off one of the bad ends of a 4ga wire and about a half inch of coating and it was all green. Thanks!
