Speed Controller upgrade 2006 TXT
I have a 2006 36v TXT with a stock motor and red chipped controller.
Currently runs 21 mph on flat ground with a lift kit and 23" tires. Looking to get more speed with upgraded speed controller. Navitas or Alltrax- 400-500-600? 200-400 Solenoid? What do you think the respective speed increases will be? |

Re: Speed Controller upgrade 2006 TXT
I rebuilt a 2005 pds 36v last year. I used alltrax 500-hd 400 sol-2ga welding-22'' timberwolf tires- 4'' drop axel. I still have stock 36v motor and 3yr old trojans and am getting about 23-24 mph.But the torque is night and day difference. Got everything from scottys and he programmed it. with this set up i am ready for 48v when batteries need replaced.I am very pleased with how it performs compared to stock

Re: Speed Controller upgrade 2006 TXT
The stock PDS controller with the freedom chip (red jumpers) installed limits the motor to about 4400RPM, but your cart isn't reaching that limit or it would be doing about 24MPH on the 23" tall tires, so installing a controller that allows a higher motor RPM won't increase the cart speed.
High current cables and the stock (85A) solenoid may be what is hold your cart back, so I'd start by upgrading to 2Ga cables (A PDS has 10 cables) and to a 400A solenoid that will work at 36V now and 42V or 48V later. Then upgrade to an Alltrax XCT48400-PDS (or larger) controller and go to a 42V or 48V battery pack when battery replacement time rolls around. A steady diet of 400A is all a stock PDS motor will tolerate, so if you go with a 500A controller, turn it down to 400A while you are running the stock PDS motor. 6500RPM is the max RPM for most cart motors, so the max cart speed is about 35MPH on 23" tall tires and you'll probably be able to reach that with either 42V or 48V. That is too fast for a narrow track, short wheelbase vehicle with rear wheels only mechanical brakes, whose center of gravity has been raised to accommodate tall tires, so it might be wise to RPM limit the motor to a cart speed of 25MPH or less. |
