NOOB: More speed/torque options for my 48v RXV ?
Edit: Thanks to Scotty for informing me that the 36 motor is a DC trick
I am now looking for different option for speed/torque. New motors? programmers? anything? Im sorry I am a noob And a lot of the info out on the internet is not very descriptive. Thanks! Hello, I am new to the carting world. I just got an 2011 Ezgo RXV 48v and have been reading some about a 36v motor giving me more speed and torque. Does anyone have some suggestions for brand or model of motor for my application? Thanks in advance :D |

Re: 36v motor suggestion for my 48v RXV ?
This is an old DC motor trick and it will not work for your AC drive cart.

Re: NOOB: More speed/torque options for my 48v RXV ?
Well, there are programmer tricks any ezgo dealer can do for faster acceleration (acceleration set to "high" feels like more torque "off-the-line"). Speed can only be set to 19mph, no higher (assuming "freedom mode" is unlocked). If it does not currently do 19mph, getting "freedom mode" unlocked is first step before considering anything else. How fast is it now? I highly recommend staying away from 8:1 gears, it seriously hurts braking performance, acceleration/hill climbing, and battery life. The only gear set i would suggest at all is 12.5:1, if you can find them. There are currently no upgrade controllers for more power. And due to the controller also being your brakes (and the liability associated with that), there may never be a controller upgrade.

And yes the salesman told me they do 19mph. I have not drivin my exact cart. I drove another they had pre built with s few different options and weird colors. I have read that I should go to the dealer and have them "re-flash" or reprogram for unlimited mode? Is that accurate? Will any ezgo dealer be able to do this? (with a fee of course) Thanks!! |

Re: NOOB: More speed/torque options for my 48v RXV ?
Hi.... Welcome to BGW.
The RXV is a computer controlled cart. The accelerator is attached to a sending unit(variable resistor) that sends a signal to computer requesting the computer to turn motor. Brakes are same setup- requesting computer to use motor to stop cart. The speed of the cart is controlled 100% by the computer. The computer can be programmed for several speeds from about 13 to about 19mph. You can "fool" the computer by using different gears or tire sizes. We do not use high speed gears and only use only tires that fit under an un-lifted RXV for several reasons. 1) RXV's are fast (19.5mph stock, 23mph with larger tires). when you lift a cart and increase its speed, they can become unstable. 2) Hill climbing torque (very important here) is hurt by larger tires. 3) Brake performance is compromised.(Safety/Legal problem) If dealer sold you an RXV, they might set the speed to 19.5mph and high acceleration as part of the sales deal. RXV's are generally viewed as having excellent torque. Most folks need high torque DC motors to climb hills without slowing to a walking speed. RXV's AC motor setup has hight torque through its entire operational speed range.... They usually outperform dc carts by a wide margin on hills. |

The rxv is what it is, a great performer unmodified. |

There is no such thing as an "unlimited mode". There are secrets to make a 2012.5 or newer "curtis controller" rxv faster without gears (which i will not share at this time), but the "danaher controller" rxv (like you have) has no secret tricks to go above 19.5mph with stock wheels & stock gears.

Re: NOOB: More speed/torque options for my 48v RXV ?
great info thank you guys.
My setup will be a 6 inch lift with I believe 12 or 14 inch tires I cannot remember. I chose the RX V with AC motor over a DC motor due to the salesman saying they C produce more torque but it sounds like for modifications speed and torque I should have went a DC motor correct? I do have quite a steep hill to climb from the lake to my house another reason why I went with the AC. |

Re: NOOB: More speed/torque options for my 48v RXV ?
No....the stock RXV should easily handle a hill. No torque mods needed.
There is no DC motor option for RXV's. All electric RXV's are 48v AC. There is a gas powered RXV. a 6 inch lift scares me on an RXV. If suspension is not stiffened, body roll could be dangerous. Far better to not lift RXV,,, 14 inch tires should be just fine w/o lift . Speed should be about 23mph on 14 inch tires. |
