PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
Does anybody have a picture of a properly wired controller/solenoid for a PDS?
I got a box job and I think I have it wired properly but I can’t get the dern solenoid to click. All the switches test good as far as I can tell I’ve been three days searching and reading this site and I am still unable to determine where the ground for the solenoid comes from and I’m about half scared to jump anything because I’ve got a brand new controller and a brand new solenoid that I ain’t trying to have to replace I would take a picture and share it but I don’t know how to upload pictures onto this site Sure could use some help |

Re: PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
On the PDS the solenoid coil activation ground (more properly called negative) comes from the controller. You can disconnect this wire and make a jumper from the battery main (-) to the solenoid. (Connect with key off Run/Tow in Tow.)
Then if the cart runs the controller has failed in this circuit |

Re: PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
I’m not 100% positive that I have the yellow and blue wires on the small terminals on the correct sides... plus there’s a red wire with a larger ring connector that I’m not sure of

Re: PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
... also, I’m not sure if this solenoid requires a diode on the small terminals

Re: PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
Red wire with the big ring connects to the main lug of the solenoid going to pack positive. Blue and yellow go to small terminals of the solenoid. Doesn’t matter which.

Re: PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
Bad news/ good news....
Bad news.... I had it wired correctly Good news... solenoid didn’t try to do anything when I jumped B- to the small terminal that the blue wire was connected to... (I think that’s what I was supposed to do) |

Re: PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
That is what I was supposed to do isn’t it?
I know how to activate an automotive solenoid but I’m guessing these are considerably different? |

Re: PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
You need the guys that were already helping you here , but in the meantime, you should be able to post a pic after maybe 7 posts?? Something like that.
There’s a paper clip icon at the top of this box you type in when you reply to a thread. Click that and you’ll see how to upload pics. Your solenoid coil just needs pack + on one small post and pack - a n the other to activate. What controller are you installing? |

Re: PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
Getting the solenoid to click with a stock PDS controller is a two step process.
First you have to get B+ to the small terminal with the yellow wire on it, then you have to get B- on the small terminal with the blue wire on it. Since the solenoid doesn't click when you've jumpered B- to the small terminal with the blue wire on it, you're not getting B+ to the terminal with the yellow wire on it. (Or the solenoid coil is open) B+ to the yellow wire starts at the battery pack's main positive terminal, through the heavy white wire to the driver side radsok in the charger receptacle, thought the reed switch to J1 Pin-4. Attached is a diagram the show the rest of the voltage path to the solenoid coil, plus a picture of a stock PDS controller with Pin-1 highlighted on all the jacks. Do you have a stock PDS controller? |

Re: PDS Controller/Solenoid picture
Thanks Orangeman... definitely some useful information... I had actually tried just about every icon up there except that one... even though the paper clip should have been obvious... I’m still gettin used to the hieroglyphics system we’re returning to
