Doubles and triples refers to the number of trailers behind the tow vehicle. A truck pulling a fifth wheel with a second trailer behind the fifth wheel, would be doubles. I tow this way and have for many years with no problems. Two or more bumper pull trailers would be illegal in all but a few states and probably unsafe. IMHO

2 or more trailers in any hitch-configuration is illegal in most states.There are very few that allow more than 1-trailer to be towed at one time,reguardless of its' hitch-configuration.
