Newbie with Old Cart

Hello,
Just joined this cool forum. I was recently given an old 3 wheel EZ-Go Cart, I think it's an '84 model if I'm deciphering the model number correctly. Does not run yet, but the price was right. I do play golf, but this cart will be for our property in the Texas Hill Country. We'll see how she goes after I get a charge on the old batteries or get some new batteries . Looking forward to this forum....

Batteries are about as expected. I charged them all night....got a reading of 29 volts from the batteries (when testing from the socket for the charger plug). I can clearly hear the solenoid click, but no movement yet. You wouldn't know how close to 36 volts we need to be at to engage the motor would you? I know I need to get new batteries, but would like to have at least a ray of hope the motor might be good. If the cart won't normally move at 29 volts, then I'll take a gamble w/ new batteries..

I read in one article that if the voltage drops below 28 volts the solenoid won't engage.

I have purchased some new batteries, installed them....cart went forward but no reverse...I cleaned up the FNR switch, and seems to run great.....have some tires in my car to put on....now I need to devise a way to keep some juice in the batteries while the carts sits in central TX with no electricity for a month or 2 at a time. I'm going to try to hook up (3) 12 volt solar trickle chargers to the 3 pairs of the 6 volt batteries. I have one on my riding mower out there and it works great.
We'll report how this works...
