8v Battery Expectations
I am getting ready to do my 48v conversion and have a question regarding batteries. I have made up my mind to go with US Batteries. I am interested in getting either the US 8VGC XC or the US 8VGCHC XC. The CHC XC are approximately $115 more for the set than the GC XC. Is there any other bennefit in getting the CHC XC other than longer run time? Appreciate any insight you can offer.

Re: 8v Battery Expectations
If you want max range I would forget about the 8 volt batteries
Go with 8 - 6 volt batts - which makes for a higher amp/ hr batt and longer life 8 volt batts have much lower amp/ hr capacity then 6 volt you can fit all 8 under the seat with a little modifications |

Re: 8v Battery Expectations
Sir Nuke, your logic is on point, I have my voltage reducer on the left hand side of the batter pack, F/R swith on the right, and I located my solenoid off the speed controller on the right hand side of the pack as well. So locating eight, 6v batteries under the seat is out. I also have very large hills on my property. With kids on the back seat and 2 extra batteries in the bag well, I am afraid ugly things could happen. I have never had any issues with run time. When on vacation the area we ride is flatter and even using the cart for extended periods we never have run time issues. If noticable performance can be achieved by the upgrade batteries I may consider, but if run time is the only benefit, I may pass.
I used Johnie B's 8v battery comparison and competative pricing for my decision to go with US Battery. |

Re: 8v Battery Expectations
The upgrade to 48v will get you roughly 30% more speed/torque.....but you need to remember, there are a few other things that need to be changed/upgraded when going to 48v. ensure the diode and resistor on the solenoid are of the proper size, I'm not familiar with your controller, but is there any settings that need to be changed? maybe so, just things to consider.

Re: 8v Battery Expectations
Good advise for sure, I have a new DPI 48v charger, 48v Super Duty solenoid, and extended battery cables on order with Scotty B, controller is a non-programable 480 LogiSytems controller. Has the capability to swith between 36v and 48v automatically. I think I have my basis covered Now I just need the batteries!

Re: 8v Battery Expectations
I just finished the 48v conversion. Range is important to me. As you probably know, johnnieb has calculated that a 48v pack of 170Ah 8v batteries would have approx. the same range as a 36v pack of 225Ah 6v batteries all else being equal. I considered this as theoretical since I couldn't find any real world documentation.
I was going to go with 170Ah batteries based on this but I was admittedly a little worried about it. As it turned out I came across a good price on Crown 190Ah batteries and bought them. I've only had them for 3 weeks now but initial tests indicate that the range is at least 15% better than I was getting on the previous 36v pack of T-105s. At this stage the data suggests I would have been happy with the 170Ah batteries as they would have at least equalled or maybe bettered the range I was getting on 36v worth of 225Ah batteries. Again, preliminary but based on your description of your current use I believe the 170Ah batteries would be all you need and the cost difference probably doesn't justify the bigger ones. Based on my experience so far you will love the 48v. My cart is also a series. Top speed didn't increase that much but the torque for acceleration and hill climbing is very noticeable. ( I'm on standard size tires ) |

Re: 8v Battery Expectations
It appears that we are nearly neighbors! I would be very interested in a demonstration of the 48v performance once you get it done.
